God requires a clean vessel in which to pour out His Spirit Simply stated, our attitude toward God must be one of faith, humility, and desire. The Bible tells us that "without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" (Hebrews 11:6). We must also recognize our need for God and acknowledge the sin that separates us from Him. This leads us to repentance – a sincere, complete turning of our life toward God and heartfelt sorrow for our sin. Repentance is a necessary prerequisite for the infilling of the Holy Ghost (See Luke 13:3 and Acts 2:38.) This happens when we can honestly say to God, "I know that I have sinned, I’m sorry for my sins, and I turn complete control of my life over to You." When that happens – when we yield our will to God’s – He can fill us with His Spirit and create a new heart within us. We are spiritually transformed into a new creation, empowered to be a sanctified child of God, and blessed with a peace of mind that is unlike anything we can even imagine (See Philippians 4:4-7.)
